32 Young Girls Heard The Call For Rose Buds at 2019 Rose of Tralee Festival

32 young girls have been selected to play a crucial role as Rose Buds during the 60 Year Celebrations of the Rose of Tralee International Festival which will take place from Friday 23rd to 27th August.

Aged between 6 and 10, they were chosen from hundreds of applications from children in Ireland and abroad, with 24 of the final 32 being from Kerry and eight Rose Bud places allocated through various Rose of Tralee and associated sponsor promotions.

Once again, Audiology Medical Services, Ireland’s leading independent Audiology Company, providing expert and comprehensive child-centred and family-friendly diagnostic audiological assessment of infants, children and adolescents has been confirmed as the proud sponsor of this year’s Rose Buds.

Kay Lewis, Director of Audiology Medical Services: “As a family-owned hearing care provider, we are so proud to be associated with the Rose of Tralee International Festival for the second year. Not only is it a magnificent celebration of strong inspirational women; it’s also truly a family affair. The Roses are exceptional role models for the Rose Buds and we are delighted to be associated with empowering the next generation of smart, successful and confident women. It will be an amazing experience for these children.”

Two children per thousand in Ireland are born with a significant hearing loss and by the age of 14, the prevalence of hearing loss is estimated at 4 per thousand, or approximately 3,500 children. The causes of hearing loss may be genetic, due to trauma or illness, or may be unknown, but early intervention is the key to ensuring the best quality of life for any child with a hearing loss.

“Through our involvement with the Rose of Tralee, we hope to generate awareness of the importance of having children’s hearing tested,” said Kay Lewis.

The Communications Manager for the Rose of Tralee International Festival, John Drummey, said: “The most important thing about being a Rose Bud is to have fun! Each girl will be twinned with a Rose, take part in two parades, attend an exclusive Rose Bud Party with the Roses and much more during the week-long festival. €5 from every entry will be donated to Barretstown Children’s Charity which offers free, medically endorsed camps & programmes that are designed for children & their families living with serious illness.”

Legendary Irish band, Aslan will perform at a FREE concert during the Rose of Tralee International Festival which runs from Friday 23rd to Tuesday 27th 2019.

The gig will form the centrepiece of a 60th Anniversary Party on Denny Street on Sunday 25th August along with a Celebration Street Disco featuring hits from the six decades of Ireland’s flagship family fun festival.

The Hot House Flowers, another legendary Irish group, will perform at a FREE gig on Denny Street on the opening night of the Festival, Friday 23rd August and Country Star, Derek Ryan will play for FREE on Tuesday 27th August.
