Tralee Chamber Alliance tackles Jobs Minister over job creation in Tralee

Tralee Chamber Alliance has told the Minister with responsibility for Job creation, Richard Bruton, that Tralee is an unemployment black spot and needs to be given priority when firms are considering locating to this area.

The CEO of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Kieran Ruttledge, said: “We brought our members’ concerns to the Minister’s attention and in particular the fact that Tralee has had only one visit from the IDA in the past 18 months. For a town the size of Tralee this is unacceptable especially as we have a very successful Institute of Technology and Technology Park. The Kerry Technology Park was previously very well managed by Shannon Development however the situation is that there is now no on-site management team and the ownership of the park under the wing of Shannon Airport Authority is not in the best interests of the long term development and growth of the park.”

Minister Bruton, who was accompanied by Minister Jimmy Deenihan was reminded that the Kerry Technology Park has been a huge success for Tralee employing over 400 people in well paid jobs with room for expansion within the park.

Details of the Institute of Technology’s bid to take over the running of the park were also discussed Tralee Chamber Alliance fully supports this bid and asks that the matter be expedited as soon as possible.

“We are already seeing companies leaving the park and feel that the sooner it is managed locally and professionally once again it will be in the interest of everyone concerned,” said Kieran Ruttledge.

He said Tralee Chamber Alliance hoped Minister Bruton would not only take the concerns on board, but act upon them in the interest of creating jobs in Tralee.
