Roses Launch New Girls Underage Rose Bowl Soccer Tournament for 60th Year Festival

THE Rose Bowl, a new girls underage girls soccer tournament has been launched to coincide with the 60 Year Celebrations of the Rose of Tralee International Festival.

Organised by the Kerry School Boys and Girls League, the day-long event for Under 13s from eight leagues will take place at Mounthawk Park on Saturday 24th August.

The Rose Bowl sponsored by Trophyworld will kick-off at 11am on the day and the Rose of Tralee, Kirsten Mate Maher, will present the trophy to the winning captain that afternoon.

Pádraig Harnett, who’s the Chair of the Kerry Schoolboys Girls League and a member of the FAI National Women’s Committee, said: “I am delighted that the Rose of Tralee International Festival and Girls soccer have come together for the inaugural Rose Bowl in association with Trophyworld Tralee. It will be an exciting day at the excellent Mounthawk Park when up to eight Leagues will come to Tralee for a great day of Girls soccer with the Rose of Tralee presenting the Bowl to the winners.”

The Rose Bowl promises to be a wonderful occasion for the visiting players, their families and mentors when they get to experience the family fun festival of events in Tralee in August.

The Communications Manager for the Rose of Tralee International Festival, John Drummey, said: “Girls soccer is the fastest growing section of the sport and hopefully this event will grow to become a major part of the Festival week in Tralee for years to come. Many of the women who enter the Rose of Tralee have been involved in sport since a young age. In fact, our 2017 Rose of Tralee, Dr Jennifer Byrne has played soccer for Ireland in the FIFA Under 17 World Cup. We wish the organisers well and we hope the visiting teams enjoy their time in Tralee.”
