Rose of Tralee Jennifer Byrne lights up Kerry’s capital for 2017 Christmas Spraoi in Tralee

THOUSANDS of people turned out to join the Rose of Tralee, Jennifer Byrne when she switched on the festive lights in Kerry’s capital town to launch the 2017 Christmas Spraoi in Tralee.

Everyone was in a celebratory mood, especially the Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Norma Foley who took part in the event, after Tralee’s recent success in winning the award for being Ireland’s Most Enterprising Town.

Tralee boasts some of the most spectacular Christmas lights in the country while the Christmas Spraoi in Tralee will feature over a month of FREE PARKING, shopping, dining and independently organised events including panto, fireworks displays, entertainment AND lots of party nights.

The President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Aidan Kelly, said: “Tralee is most famous for being the home of the Rose of Tralee International Festival and we were particularly honoured to welcome the 2017 Rose of Tralee, Jennifer Byrne back to switch on the town’s wonderful Christmas lights. This Christmas we are encouraging shoppers and party-goers to support local businesses when spending money on gifts or entertainment this Christmas. There isn’t a retailer, hotelier, restaurateur, publican, or attraction provider in Tralee who won’t go the extra mile to ensure that the Christmas experience for locals and visitors is the most memorable ever. The business community in Tralee, from the town centre to Manor West Retail Park, will push the boat (or sleigh) out to meet the needs of shoppers and party-goers throughout the festive season. Tralee is the perfect destination for shopping trips offering a range of major brands, individual family owned stores, with free parking and hundreds of dining options.”

Tralee Chamber Alliance particularly welcomes the recent decision by councillors in Tralee Municipal District to offer FREE on-street parking and in council carparks from 1pm daily from Monday 4th December to Sunday 7th January.

The Rose of Tralee, Jennifer Byrne was also the guest of honour at another hugely attended event in Tralee over the weekend – the Annual CH Chemist Christmas Santa Parade.

Her presence again underlined the popularity of the Rose of Tralee brand which has featured in a number of major Christmas events around the country this year.

Jennifer Byrne joined the Galway Rose, Niamh Elwood and Santa Claus to switch on the Christmas lights in Galway City last weekend.

The Limerick Rose, Kayleigh Maher and the Kilkenny Rose, Tara Roche switched on the Christmas lights in their respective cities, while the Waterford Rose, Chloe McGrath took part in the launch of Winterval Festival in Waterford City.

The Kerry Rose, Breda O’Mahony launched the Christmas Festival in Killarney and the Carlow Rose, Ciara Dooley switched on the Christmas lights in her home town.

Back in Tralee, some highlights from the Christmas Spraoi in Tralee throughout December will include the Santa 5k Fun Run on Sunday 10th December and the New Year’s Eve Fireworks Display at 7pm on Denny Street on Sunday 31st December
