Love is in the air as Tralee is established as the Festival capital of Ireland in 2014
KERRY people have fallen in love with running and it’s no surprise that this weekend’s Love to Run 10 Mile Road Race in Tralee has won the hearts of athletes from all over Ireland.
It will come on the heels of Valentine’s Day and it will signal the start of almost a full year of festivals in Tralee.
The President of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Pádraig McGillicuddy, said: “We estimate that Tralee will play host to 18 festivals of all sizes between February and December, making the town the Festival Capital of Ireland in 2014. It’s something about which everyone should be proud and something that we need to share with festival-goers from all over the world. In fact, January is the only month of the year that doesn’t see Tralee hosting a festival of any kind.”
Well known events such as the Rose of Tralee International Festival in August, the National Circus Festival of Ireland in November and the Tír na nÓg Children’s Festival at Easter have now been joined by a range of other Festivals.
Festival highlights in Tralee include the Christie Hennessy Celebration of Music, Tralee Bike Festival, New Year’s Eve Fireworks Festival, Féile na mBláth, Siamsa Tíre’s Festival of Folk, Kerry Film Festival, Kingdom Alliance Sportive and the Tralee International Marathon will all attract thousands of people to Tralee this year.
“We are encouraging the people of Tralee to familiarise themselves with every festival, sporting and cultural event that will be staged in the town over the coming months with a view inviting visitors to come and enjoy the fun,” said Pádraig McGillicuddy.
