A familiar voice will soon return to the airwaves in the Kingdom when award-winning broadcaster, John Drummey, joins the highly acclaimed Radio Kerry Sports Team as a freelancer.
He will anchor Sports bulletins on Wednesdays and Thursdays in place of Gary O’Sullivan who has decided to take a step back from a full-time role with the station.
John will continue to work with new and existing clients of his well-established PR and media training business, John Drummey Communications. He currently has among his clients the world famous Rose of Tralee International Festival, Mater Private Hospital Cork and Kerry Airport.
He is the PR consultant to Tralee Chamber Alliance since 2012 having spent two years as President from 2015 to 2017. Kirby’s Brogue Inn, Tralee is also a key client for John in the hospitality sector in Kerry.
He has had a successful career as an award-winning broadcaster and journalist in Kerry, Dublin, Cork, Clare, Carlow, Kildare and Limerick for 20 years and he still works closely with the Irish media industry.
During that time, John won five National Radio Advertising Awards as a producer, scriptwriter and voiceover artist and he was Ireland’s Speech Broadcaster of the Year Silver Medal Winner in 2008 having been nominated in the same category in 2006. He was nominated for a Hot Press Music Award in 1994.
John brings creative flair to his work through his theatrical background as a performer with Siamsa Tire – The National Folk Theatre of Ireland and other theatre groups.
He has an Honours BA Degree in Journalism from Dublin City University and a Foundation Diploma in Training from NUI Galway.
