Unlike the comet with the same name, which is only seen every 70 years or so, this Haley (26), will return to where Dáithí Ó Sé announced, five months ago that she had become the first Rose of Tralee from Texas.

Just over two-thirds of the available TV viewing audience in Ireland and tens of thousands viewers watching online all over the world saw the announcement live on RTÉ One television.

Haley O’Sullivan, who lives and works in Dallas, Texas, said: “Being part of the search for the next Rose of Tralee is exciting and to those considering entering, I would simply say you can’t go wrong by entering. Regardless of the outcome it is bound to be a fabulous time. There is so much more that happens beyond the TV show in August. It’s an opportunity for, not only the women participating in the Festival, but all women to celebrate where they come from and take pride in being strong and intelligent while having a great time. I cannot wait to meet all of the people who will participate this year. I was blown away by the amazing people I met during last year’s Festival and I am thrilled to be part of the search for the 2014 Rose of Tralee.”

The 2014 Rose of Tralee will drive away for the year in a Kia Pro_ce’ed Car packed full of jewellery and homeware products from, the Festival’s Lead Sponsor, Newbridge Silverware and a World Travel Prize valued at €25,000 sponsored by Dublin Airport Authority.

It’s more than a TV show and five-day International Festival because more than 25,000 people will attend the Rose Selection events from Donegal to Dubai, Mayo to Melbourne and Bahrain to Boston over the coming months.

Before Haley landed at Dublin Airport yesterday, the search for the 2014 Rose of Tralee had commenced and she will enhance the process during a week-long tour of Ireland this week.

The General Manager of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, Oliver Hurley, said: “We have to continue looking forward and be at our best in order to stage a top quality family festival again in 2014. It all begins with the search for the people who participate in the 71 Rose Selections around the world. Ultimately, it is our intention to build on the legacy of the Rose Gathering and strive to make this year’s event in Tralee more enjoyable than ever.”

The 2014 Rose of Tralee International Festival will take place from Friday 15th to Tuesday 19th August when a full line-up of free and affordable entertainment will once again attract massive crowds to Tralee.
