General Practitioners from Cork & Kerry attend Mater Private Hospital Cork Autumn GP Study Day

OVER 100 General Practitioners and Consultants took part in the annual Mater Private Hospital Cork Autumn GP Study Day over the weekend in Killarney’s Europe Hotel and Resort.

Consultant Doctors from Mater Private Cork discussed a range of important topics including the changing face of prostate cancer diagnosis, hypertension dilemmas and heart failure, and advances in joint replacement surgery.

The Chief Operating Officer at Mater Private Cork, John Mulhern, said: “It’s important for our consultants get to know the group of GPs who refer to them. It gives them an opportunity to ask questions about our services and the types and range of surgeries and procedures we perform. The consultants understand that GPs are at the coalface of primary health care in Ireland and it’s very tough out there. Days like this give them an opportunity to share experiences, talk through difficult cases and learn from each other.”

Five of the most recently appointed consultant doctors to Mater Private Cork – Ms Mary Morrogh (General & Breast Surgery), Mr Padhraig O’Loughlin (Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery), Mr Mark Quinlan (Urology), Dr James Dollard (Cardiologist) and Mr Gerald McGreal (Vascular & General Surgeon) – were in attendance to introduce themselves and present case studies to the GPs.

Consultant Doctors from Mater Private Cork discussed a range of topics including Orthopaedics, Anaphylaxis, Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Emergency Medicine, Rheumatology and Surgery during the day-long event in Kerry.

GPs also participated in a number of workshops covering advances and updates in spine examination and basic life support.

Mater Private Hospital Cork has continued to grow over the past year with the opening of the Orthopaedic and Spine Centre and a new Ophthalmic Centre offering the highest standard care to patients who may need attention to eye-related conditions.

“Through this and other GP Study Events throughout the year, including one-to-one meetings between consultants and GPs that take place on an ongoing basis, we are keen to take this opportunity showcase the wide range of services that Mater Private Cork has to offer patients of GPs throughout Munster, without delay,” said John Mulhern.

Mater Private Hospital Cork is equipped with the very latest technology, private en-suite rooms and free parking for patients and visitors in a designated area. The Emergency Department, which treats patients over 16, and Urgent Cardiac Care open daily, from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
