FREETEXT service introduced in Tralee to alert council to empty full street bins

TRALEE is certainly on the right path to becoming one of the tidiest towns in Ireland following the introduction of a new FREETEXT system that alerts the local authorities when a street bin is full.

Every bin in Tralee town centre has a log number and is accompanied by a FREETEXT number 50050. Simply, when a member of public sees a full bin, they text the bin number to 50050 and they will receive an automated reply from Tralee Town Council saying that the bin will be emptied as soon as possible.

CEO of Tralee Chamber Alliance, Kieran Ruttledge, said: “It has been piloted throughout the town for the past week and initial results indicate that the system is working. All the town centre bins are in the system which was established by Text Republic. This system works – I have tried it twice and got results both times. It helps people feel as though they can do something positive towards keeping the town clean and tidy. It’s a simple solution to an age old problem and now the council can immediately target problem areas.”

The initiative which came from Tralee Chamber Alliance, has been implemented through the technology of local company, Text Republic and the work on the ground is done by Tralee Town Council.

Kieran Ruttledge said that it was a great example of all parties working together for the betterment of Tralee.
