HOUSEKEEPING and catering staff at the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee have been celebrating after winning two major national awards for their cleaning and cooking.
On the housekeeping front the CAP Award inspectors were impressed by the dedication of the cleaning team to ensure the patient environmental was spotlessly clean.
Ian Jackson, Managing Director of the CAP Awards, said: “We were hugely impressed by the real understanding staff had of their different roles and why what they were doing was so important to the patients and the hospital medical teams.”
The CAP Awards (the Continuous Advancement Programme) measure the quality of cleaning and housekeeping in healthcare facilities across Ireland and the UK and are regarded by patients and their families as a mark of high quality.
The catering service also received praise from the CAP Award Programme. The soup of the day “apple and celery” was described as being simply delicious and the plaice was beautifully cooked.
The CEO of Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee, Niall Donnelly, said: “We are delighted that the housekeeping and catering staff have won this award. It is important that the dedication of both teams is recognised. It’s been a successful number of months having being honoured at National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) Occupational Safety Awards while the Urgent Care Centre was shortlisted at the Irish Healthcare Centre Awards.”
Bon Secours Hospital Tralee plans to continue working with the CAP Awards in the year ahead to maintain, and where possible improve, the quality of the housekeeping and catering departments.
