THE brand new extension to one of Ireland’s top five hospitals, the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee, has been given a holy blessing from the Bishop of Kerry, the Most Reverend Raymond Browne.
In the presence of Fr Seamus Linnane, Hospital Manager, staff and Sisters, the Bishop gave his blessing to the magnificent Josephine Potel extension, the first of a two-phase €7 million development at the hospital.
Bishop Browne said that it would have been a proud day for his late mother, had she been alive, to see him blessing a Bon Secours building, as he had two grand-aunts who entered the order of the Bon Secours Sisters. He blessed all who will work in this building and to keep their faith alive in their hearts and in their work.
Hospital Manager, Donna Roche, said: “This is an exciting day for everyone involved in the day-to-day running of the Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee. The need to expand has arisen over a number of years and this new development will result in the provision of additional space for the hospital’s clinical outpatient departments. Great credit is due to the design and construction team who worked tirelessly to complete this phase of the project on schedule.”
Construction work on the new Administration and Storage building, 125 additional car park spaces and a new vehicle entrance from Matt Talbot Road began in February of this year and it provided jobs for 50 people.
The Josephine Potel extension will be the new home to the Administration, Finance, Supplies, Laundry and Medical Records Departments at the hospital and prayers were said for each during the blessing ceremony.
Donna Roche expressed her gratitude to Bishop Browne, Fr Seamus Linnane, the Sisters of Bon Secours, Sr. Anita Burke, Mission Leader & Pastoral Care Team, Denis O’Sullivan, Project Manager, The Design Team, Aidan Malone, Gerry Ryan, Liam Waldron and Costello Builders for attending the blessing.
The Bon Secours Hospital is one of the top five hospitals in Ireland and the Hospital in Tralee has been serving County Kerry for over 90 years. During that time it has commanded a well-earned and enviable reputation for offering the highest standards in patient care, delivered with the utmost compassion.
The Bon Secours Hospital Tralee is a proud sponsor of the Rose of Tralee International Festival and Healthcare Partner to Kerry GAA.
