HUNDREDS of cycling enthusiasts of all levels of ability and interest are getting set for the inaugural Kingdom Alliance Sportive in Tralee.
Each of the three daily 100 mile stages will start and finish in Tralee and the tours are designed for both competitive and leisure cyclists with a shorter 50 mile option on each circuit available to cyclists.
- Saturday June 1st – Stage 1 will take the riders around North and East Kerry
- Sunday June 2nd – Stage 2, the Queen stage, will be through the McGillicuddy Reeks
- Monday June 3rd – Stage 3 will see the cyclists enjoy the breath-taking views around the Dingle peninsula
Dick McElligott, Secretary/PRO of Tralee Cycling Club, the host club for the ‘cyclosportive’, said: “Lead cars will take the ‘Racers’ out ahead of the casual cyclists to make it safer and more enjoyable for people of varying fitness levels. Leisure cyclists will be challenged by the distance to be travelled, while the competitive cyclists can strive to cover the course as quickly as possible. Each stage will start at the Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre with a long (c100 miles) and short (c50 miles) route. All riders will have the benefit of support vehicles and first aid if needed. Off the road, all participants will find ample accommodation in the town of Tralee for the weekend with secure storage for bicycles at the Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre.”
He is encouraging the people of Kerry to come out and support the participants as they soak-up the spectacular scenery that the Kingdom has to offer.
The Kingdom Alliance Sportive will support a number of local and national charities: Bru Columbanus; Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind; The Irish Kidney Association; Kerry Cancer Support; The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Myelin Project.
